dc.description.abstractTimateos Pavlus (1837-1914), Osmanlı yönetimi altında Süryani Ortodoks Kilisesi'nin ilk İstanbul episkoposudur. Timateos Pavlus'un kaleminden çıkan ve tez çalışmamıza konu teşkil eden eser ise hatırat niteliği taşımakta ve söz konusu bu episkoposun yaşam öyküsünü içermektedir. Timateos Pavlus'un hatıratı tarihsel bir belge olarak önem taşımaktadır. Bu çerçevede, eserde, Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'nda XIX. yüzyıl sonları ile XX. yüzyıl başlarında yaşanan tarihsel olaylara bazı açılardan ışık tutabilecek kayıtlar muhafaza edilmiştir. Süryani Ortodoks Kilisesi'nin Ermeni Kilisesi'nin boyunduruğundan kurtulup yeniden bağımsız bir kürsü haline dönüşmesi veya Süryani cemaatin Osmanlı yönetimiyle ve Müslüman ve gayr-i Müslim diğer unsurlarla olan ilişkileri bu bakımdan örnek olarak gösterilebilir. Aynı şekilde Süryani Kilisesi'nin işleyişine, yapısına ve kendi bünyesinde yaşadığı problemlere ilişkin bilgiler de Timateos Pavlus tarafından kayıt altına alınarak nakledilmiştir. Bununla birlikte, okuyucular söz konusu hatıratta Urfa veya İstanbul gibi önemli bazı şehirlerin XIX. yüzyıl sonları ile XX. yüzyıl başlarındaki dini, sosyal, iktisadi ve siyasi durumu hakkında da fikir edinebileceklerdir. Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'nun son dönemlerinde ortaya çıkan bazı huzursuzluklar da yer yer kısaca tasvir edilmiştir. Bütün bu hususlar göz önünde bulundurulursa, Timateos Pavlus'un hatıratını önem taşıyan bir tarihsel belge olarak tanımlamak gerekir. "İstanbul Episkoposu Timateos Pavlus'un Hatıratı" şeklinde isimlendirdiğimiz bu tez çalışması "Giriş" ve "Sonuç ve Değerlendirme" kısımları dışında iki ana bölümden oluşmaktadır. "Giriş" kısmında araştırmanın konusu, kaynak değeri, problematiği ve araştırma esnasında izlenen yöntem gibi konularda özet bilgiler verilmiştir. "Birinci Bölüm"; Timateos Pavlus'a ait hatırat metninin dil yönünden incelenmesi, içeriğinin tanımlanması, yazmanın tavsifi ve yazmada geçip de tartışmalı olan bazı konular üzerinde tarafımızca yapılan değerlendirmeler ile kilise hiyerarşisi gibi konulara yöneliktir. "İkinci Bölüm" ise bir bütün halinde söz X konusu bu yazmanın Süryanice metnini, Türkçe tercümesini ve metin tahlilini içermektedir. "Sonuç ve Değerlendirme" kısmı Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'nun son dönemlerinde yaşanan bazı olayları ve gelişmeleri "İstanbul Episkoposu Timateos Pavlus'un Hatıratı" özelinde yorumlama amacı taşımaktadır. Ancak bunun bir yüksek lisans tezi olması sebebiyle iddialı yorumlar yapmaktan da özellikle kaçınılmıştır. Tez çalışmasının "Ekler" başlığı altında sunulan en son kısmı ise Timateos Pavlus'a ait elyazmasından bazı örnekleri ve yine kendisine ait şahsi fotoğrafı içermektedir.en_US
dc.description.abstractTimateos Pavlus was the first Archbishop of Istanbul in the history of the Syriac Orthodox Church. This is generally a work of his own life (autobiography) written by himself. The work is sheds lighton a very important period of history of the Ottoman Empire such as the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. In this case, the main topic is the Syrian Orthodox Church which became a free church by leaving the yoke of the Armenian Church, and the relationship of the Syriac community with the Ottoman Goverment and also the relationship with muslim and non-muslim communities. At the same time, in this work we can see the religious, social, political, commercial and political situation of some important cities like İstanbul and Urfa at the end of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century. Also it refers to some chaos that occurred in the last period of the Ottoman Empire. From all these aspects we can define the Memoir of Timateos Pavlus as a very important historical document. Our study of this important document "The Memoirs of the Episcopos Timothy Paul of Istanbul" consists of an introduction, two chapters, the conclusion and the appendix. In the introduction of our thesis; the subject, the source, the problematic, the value and the method of the research are discussed. The first chapter examines the linguistic examination of the memoir of Timothy Paul, the content, the definition of writings, the assessments we have done on some issues that are controversial in writing, and about the church hierarchy. The second chapter includes the manuscript of the Syriac Text, Turkish translation and a critical edition of the text. In the conclusion and evaluation section, we tried to contribute to the field by evaluating the period in the context of "Episcopate Timateos Pavlus XII Historiography". The appendices include examples of original manuscripts and photographs of the Episcopus.en_US
